Athletes
in the central parts of the country can look forward to the
opportunity to qualify for the Two Oceans and Comrades.
This
year will be the 25th celebration of the unique Powerade
Three-Province Marathon, which will take place on Saturday 13th
September. This challenging 42,2km race through the Northern Cape,
the North West & the Free State enables the participants to
qualify for the Two Oceans- and Comrades marathons.
The
organizer of the race and Chairman of the Christiana Marathon Club,
Mr. Francois Conradie, says this is one of the few rural qualifying
races, and its popularity increases annually due to the high
standard. Conradie stated, “About 400 athletes are expected to
enter this year. We even expect entries from
as far-a-field as Mossel Bay.”
The
marathons will start-off at 06:30 in Grens Street Jan Kempdorp, while
the half marathon will start at the same time, 13km out of
Christiana. The marathon rules are in compliance with ASA rules and
there will be adequate water points en route.
The fun run, suitable for the whole family, will start at
08:00 at the finishing point in Rivier Street Christiana.
The
marathon and half-marathon prize giving will be at 11:30 at the
finishing point. All participants in the full marathon will receive
medals and the winners will receive trophies as well. Renay
